Women's Golf at UMSL

The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s golf team has earned a bid to the NCAA East Super Regional for the fifth straight year and will be one of 36 schools vying for a spot at the NCAA Championships. The East Regional will be played at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., and will be hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The 54-hole tournament runs May 4-6.

UMSL is among nine teams participating in the East Regional and is seeded No. 7 in the field. The other schools include: Indianapolis, Grand Valley State, Ferris State, Ashland, Findlay, California (PA), Southern Indiana and Drury.

The individuals competing are Kasey Frazier (Wheeling Jesuit), Jamie Ellison (Ohio Dominican), Steph Peareth (Concord) and Jamie Tsangeos (Walsh).

There will be four regional sites across the country consisting of both team and individual competition being conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete through 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each regional will advance to the championships.

The 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 14-17, at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Canover, N.C., with Lenoir-Rhyne University serving as host.

The UMSL Tritons are coming off a fourth place finish at the GLVC Championships this past weekend. UMSL won team titles in its previous two outings and has four team wins this season.

The Tritons are led by sophomore Tayler Hoag, who owns a team-best scoring average of 77.4 Hoag earned All-GLVC honors for the second straight year after placing third at last weekend’s GLVC Championships. She has won three individual titles this year and has placed in the top 10 in all but one tournament.

Junior Bailey Hopper follows with a 79.3 scoring average and was also named All-GLVC. She has five top-10 finishes this season, including medalist honors at the Triton Invitational April 13-14.
