UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The Tritons men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against third-ranked Rockhurst and edged William Jewell over the weekend while stretching its unbeaten streak to seven matches.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL extended its unbeaten streak to seven games over the weekend as the Tritons battled No. 3 ranked Rockhurst to a scoreless draw in double overtime last Friday before defeating William Jewell 2-1 on Sunday. Senior DJ Bednar and sophomore Kenan Selimovic each scored in the victory, while senior keeper Jack Filla made nine saves over the weekend, including six against the nationally ranked Hawks. UMSL (6-1-1, 5-0-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) travels to Missouri S&T on Friday and to Drury on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer
UMSL bounced back from a 1-0 loss to No. 23 ranked Rockhurst on Friday with a 2-0 win over William Jewell on Sunday as the Tritons got goals from senior Miriam Taylor and junior Emily Mosier. UMSL (4-2, 4-2 GLVC) will travel to Missouri S&T and Drury next Friday and Sunday, respectively, after closing out a four-game homestand.

Volleyball
The Tritons lost a pair of GLVC road matches last weekend, falling 3-1 at 15th-ranked Lewis last Friday and then at Wisconsin-Parkside by the same score on Saturday. Freshman Morgan Childers averaged 3.00 kills per set, while junior Gina Pezze averaged 1.62 kills and 2.62 digs per set. The Tritons (7-4, 2-2 GLVC) will host Drury and Missouri S&T on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Women’s Tennis
Sophomore Salome Bleuler defeated eighth-seeded Sofya Logunova of Walsh en route to advancing to the Round of 16 to highlight action at the ITA Midwest Regional for the Tritons, while fellow sophomore Jennifer Hauer also advanced to the Round of 16. In doubles, the duo of graduate students Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino advanced to the quarterfinals. UMSL returns to the courts on Sept. 28 to host Lindenwood-Belleville at 2 p.m.

Women’s Golf
UMSL recorded a fourth-place finish at the Gilda’s Club Laker Invite, hosted by Grand Valley State, last Saturday and Sunday. The Tritons recorded a team score of 615 (309-306) in the 19-team field, while freshman Emma Thorngren posted her second straight top-five finish, placing fourth with a 147 (72-75). The Tritons will host a fall invitational at Oak Terrace Saturday and Sunday in Pana, Illinois.
