Junior civil engineering student Josiah Lockhart works on his pumpkin creation Wednesday afternoon on the patio outside the Millennium Student Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
Nearly 100 students took part in the pumpkin carving contest hosted jointly by UMSL Global Students and Experiences and the Department of Art and Design. Attendees of the free event received pumpkins, carving kits and snacks, and they were treated to some spooky readings to help them get in the Halloween spirit.

Sophomore criminology and psychology major Emily Batres and freshman business administration major Jackson Paiz Rodriguez were among the contestants.
