The students cheered when Sophia Stephens (at center left) told them that she grew up in north St. Louis County and attended nearby McCluer High School. Stephens recalled how one of her teachers at the time convinced her to attend a showing of “Godspell” and how she fell in love with the world of professional theater as a result. She landed her first lead role with The Black Rep about a year later.
