Women’s Basketball
UMSL closed out its nonconference schedule with a 74-69 win over Lindenwood on Sunday, recording season highs with 16 steals and seven blocked shots while forcing the Lions into 26 turnovers. Senior Shawnta Johnson flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds and a career-best seven assists to go with two blocks. Freshman Alex LaPorta also filled out the stat sheet with eight points, 13 rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocks. The Tritons (6-4, 1-2 GLVC) finished nonconference play with a 6-1 record. They resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday, traveling to 20th-ranked Southern Indiana.
Men’s Basketball
The Tritons wrapped up their nonconference slate with a 77-64 loss to Lindenwood on Sunday. UMSL shot 39.3 percent and went just 12 of 25 (48 percent) at the free-throw line. Freshman Jose Grubbs scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed six rebounds and two steals. The Tritons (7-5, 2-1) return to GLVC play on Thursday, traveling to Southern Indiana.
