Women’s Golf
Fifth-year senior Emma Thorngren earned a spot at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship when she placed third individually at the NCAA East Regional, which wrapped up last Wednesday at the Prairie View Golf Club in Indianapolis. Thorngren finished with combined score of 221 (72-78-71) in the 54-hole tournament, and her final-round 71 was the lowest of the tournament. She is one of the three individuals who advanced from the East Regional to the NCAA Championship, and she’ll be making her fourth career appearance in an event that this year will be held May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Detroit. UMSL just missed joining her as a team as it finished fourth in the team competition with a combined score of 928. Indianapolis won the regional title with an 890, while Findlay (912) and Grand Valley State (925), finished second and third, respectively, to advance on.

Men’s Golf
The Tritons closed out the season Saturday with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional after jumping four on the final day of the three-day, 54-hole tournament. They finished with a combined score of 890 (304-292-295). Sophomore Juan Antonio Padilla tied for 23rd to pace the Tritons, turning in a 219 (73-73-73). Central Missouri won the regional title with a five-under 847, finishing 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Indianapolis. Both of those teams, along with Arkansas Tech and Washburn advance to the NCAA Championship May 17-21.

Track and Field
The UMSL Track and Field teams competed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships for the first time Thursday night with four runners competing in the 1,500-meter run. Freshman Benjamin VandenBrink ran a season-best 4 minutes 5.73 seconds, placing 14th. Freshmen Matthias Shelp (4:19.89, 16th) and Brett Lynch (4:28.14, 18th) also competed. For the women, freshman Kayley Heeter was 20th in 5:22.72.
