Volleyball
The Tritons jumped out to a 2-0 start to the Great Lakes Valley Conference season with a pair of 3-1 victories over Illinois Springfield and Quincy on the road Thursday and Saturday, respectively. UMSL (7-3, 2-0 GLVC) dropped the opening set in both matches before rallying for convincing wins. Outside hitter Charlotte Richards combined for 37 kills in the two victories to lead the Tritons, who also got 88 assists from setter Kaileen Herman and 60 digs from libero Megan Woll. The team will play its home opener Friday against Rockhurst before playing host to William Jewell on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL split a pair of GLVC road matches over the weekend, falling 2-1 at Illinois Springfield on Friday before beating Lewis 2-1 Sunday. Leo Sowa drilled a penalty shot into the upper left corner of the goal with 35 seconds remaining in the first overtime period Sunday to lift the Tritons (2-3, 1-2 GLVC) to their second win of the season. Sowa also assisted on Drew Schenk‘s goal 23 minutes into the match. Arman Kovac scored the loan goal in Friday’s loss. UMSL will return home to play Truman State on Friday and Quincy on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer
The Tritons dropped a pair of road matches last weekend, losing 2-1 at Illinois Springfield in overtime on Friday and getting blanked 1-0 by Lewis on Sunday. Ayana Weissenfluh scored UMSL’s loan goal of the weekend in the 64th minute against the Prairie Stars before Illinois Springfield notched the two of its own, including an overtime goal in the 94th minute. The Tritons take on Truman State and Quincy in home matches Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The men’s team ran to a fifth-place finish out of 17 teams in the Larry Young Invitational, hosted by Columbia College on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri. Jacob Warner paced the Tritons in a time of 26 minutes, 54.27 seconds to place eighth overall, and Sam Savastino (24th) and Gavin Love (49th) also place among the top 50 runners in the men’s field. The women’s team finished in 14th place and was led by Lily Wagemann, who posted a time of 21:10.77 to finish 49th. Both teams will race on Friday in the H.W. Wright Classic in Decatur, Illinois.
