Leader Publications profiled Gordon S. Heddell, a political science alum, who recently returned to Crystal City, Missouri, after a distinguished career in Washington, D.C. Heddell served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot before earning his bachelor’s degree at UMSL. He then joined the secret service, guarding former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Vice President Walter Mondale. In 1988, he was promoted to assistant director of the agency. President Clinton appointed him as inspector general of the Department of Labor, and he then served as the inspector general of the Department of Defense under President Bush. He stayed on under President Obama, as well.
Several local, regional and national outlets including Construction Forum STL, KSDK, KTRS, Missouri Business Alert, Philanthropy News Digest, the Springfield Business Journal, The St. Louis American, the St. Louis Business Journal and St. Louis Public Radio carried stories about an $8 million grant from the James S. McDonnell Foundation to support UMSL’s new School of Engineering.
STLMade featured Jonathan Lidgus, the director of the Office of Inclusive Postsecondary Education at UMSL. Lidgus spoke with the publication about the unemployment crisis for individuals with intellectual disabilities and what the OIPE is doing to address the issue.
