Men’s Basketball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s basketball team suffered a narrow loss at Quincy on Monday night but bounced back on Thursday with a barrage of 3-pointers in a road victory at Maryville. The Tritons hit 16 of 29 shots from beyond the arc while rolling to a 91-66 victory over the Saints. Freshman guard Quenton Parker led the way, hitting 5 of 10 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 19 points. Janeir Harris made 4 3-pointers, Matt Enright and Savon Wykle connected on three each and Emanuel Prospere II hit his only 3-point attempt. Troy Glover II didn’t attempt a 3-pointer, but he finished second on the team with 17 points, going 8 for 11 from the field. He also collected a team-high nine rebounds and blocked four shots. UMSL was a 3-pointer short Monday in a 79-76 loss to the Hawks in a game rescheduled from Jan. 5 because of winter weather. The Tritons missed two chances to take the lead and also had a turnover after Quincy went ahead 77-76 on Max Booher’s layup with 1:31 remaining. Enright finished with a team-high 20 points in the loss. Glover and Harris each had 16 points, and Wykle added 10. The Hawks had six players in double figures. UMSL (9-9, 7-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) return home to face Illinois Springfield on Thursday in the Red Out/Academic Appreciation game and will take on McKendree on Saturday at the Mark Twain Athletic Center.

Women’s Basketball
The Tritons split a pair of road games last week, falling at Quincy 64-53 on Monday but rebounding with a 57-52 victory at Maryville on Thursday. UMSL couldn’t climb out of an early hole it dug against the Hawks while shooting 3 for 16 and getting outscored 24-12 in the opening quarter in a game rescheduled from Jan. 5 because of winter weather. Alex Wolff and Audrey Martinez-Stewart finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively, but the Tritons only finished 32.8% from the field and 2 for 13 from beyond the 3-point arc. Nicole McDermott scored a game-high 22 points to lead Quincy. UMSL overcame another slow start and cold shooting to edge the Saints in a game that featured four ties and nine lead changes. Katie Hamill finished with a game-high 19 points and added seven rebounds. Martinez-Stewart scored 12 points. Coach Katie Vaughn‘s team shot only 37% from the field, but they held Maryville to 28.8% shooting. The Tritons (14-4, 8-3 GLVC) will next play Illinois Springfield on Thursday and McKendree on Saturday. Both contests are at the Mark Twain Athletic Center, and Thursday’s game is the Red Out/Academic Appreciation game and will take on McKendree on Saturday at the Mark Twain Athletic Center.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
UMSL’s swimming teams wrapped up their regular seasons over the weekend, honoring seniors Ethan Boehle, Ryan Conner, Cheyanne Godleski, Averi Meade, Kate Nelson and Mason Stimson in their final home meet on Friday against Division I Saint Louis University and then racing in a triangular against McKendree and Lewis on Saturday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O’Fallon, Illinois. The women tied the Billikens 102.5-102.5 in Friday’s dual meet while the men lost 107-98. On Saturday, the women lost 169-89 against the host Bearcats and 130-129 against the Flyers while the men fell to McKendree 206.5-77.5 and Lewis 183-88. Sophomore Justice Beard and fifth-year senior Conley Savage each picked up three event wins combined in the meets. Beard won both the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,000-yard freestyle against SLU and took first in Saturday’s 500-yard freestyle, improved her qualifying time for nationals by nearly a second while winning in 4 minutes, 53.84 seconds. She also took second in the 200 free (1:51.66) which was also good for a qualifying time for nationals. Beard finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:08.84). Savage topped the field in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke on Friday night with times of 50.18 seconds and 52.26 seconds, respectively. He also won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.50 on Saturday. Among the other notable performances from the weekend, Hendrik Bechtel won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:47.57) and 500-yard freestyle (4:45.69) on Friday. Audrey Lantz took first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard free freestyle. She had a time of 24.58 seconds in the 50 and 53.58 seconds in the 100 free. UMSL will next race in the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships. The five-day meet begins on Feb. 11 at the Elkhart Aquatic Center in Elkhart, Indiana.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
The Tritons resumed their indoor season on Saturday, competing in the Illinois College Snowbird Invite held at King Fieldhouse in Jacksonville, Illinois. UMSL posted eight top-five finishes in the meet. Benjamin VandenBrink won the men’s 3,000-meter race in 8 minutes, 39.87 seconds. Caleb Cody-Jackson placed second in the 400 meters in 50.69 seconds and third in the 200 meters in 22.95. Rashad Smith and Bailey Riley were third and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump with marks of 43 feet, 9.75 inches and 42-7. Caleb Leach was fourth in the men’s 1-mile race with a time of 4:27.24, and Gavin Love placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:01.45. On the women’s side, Kennedy Moore finished third in the triple jump after clearing 35’6.5″ in her second attempt of the finals. The Tritons will be back on the track Friday and Saturday in the Principia Relays at the Coach Crafton Athletic Center in Elsah, Illinois.
