Associate Teaching Professor of Spanish Tim Abeln is assisted by students Megan Patton and Chido Thandeka Munyaka as he prepares two dishes for sampling. As part of the University of Missouri–St. Louis’ annual Foreign Language Week celebration, the Department of Language and Cultural Studies hosted multiple food-tasting events. For the Taste of Latin America, Abeln showed students how to make the Costa Rican dish picadillo de chayote and the traditional Mexican dish mole poblano.

Other food-related events during the week-long celebration included a hands-on Japanese cooking demo where students learned to make their own onigiri and a King Cake tasting event. On Tuesday night at the Millennium Student Center, the department is hosting Afriky Lolo Comes to UMSL: West African Drums and Dance Performance and Workshop
