Women’s Basketball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s basketball team rang in the new year with back-to-back victories over Quincy and Upper Iowa. The Tritons edged the Hawks 62-61 in overtime on Friday at the Mark Twain Athletic Center. UMSL took the lead for good on Anna Costa Riera‘s driving layup with 2:06 remaining in the extra period. Mara Rieder and Lexi Hanna each sank two free throws in the final minute and a half to hold off Quincy. Reider finished with 23 points to lead all scorers. Morgan Ramthun added 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Jayden Kuper also scored 10 points. The Tritons won despite shooting 34.3% from the field. They forced 22 turnovers and picked up 12 steals. UMSL had a more comfortable time in Sunday’s 72-50 victory over Upper Iowa. The Tritons outscored the visiting Peacocks 25-13 in the second quarter to take a 42-27 halftime lead and continued pulling away after the break. Rieder scored a game-high 24 points and had 11 rebounds, and Ramthun added 21 points and 12 boards. UMSL’s defense was strong throughout and held Upper Iowa to 30% shooting. The Tritons (10-2, 6-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will take to the road later this week as they visit Rockhurst on Thursday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
Men’s Basketball
The Tritons went 1-1 to open 2026, routing Quincy 93-60 on Friday but falling to Upper Iowa 79-67 on Sunday at the Mark Twain Athletic Center. UMSL had five players finish in double figures against the Hawks, including reserves Demetris Phillips and Vincent Davis III, who combined for 27 points on 16-for-22 shooting. Starters Miles Boland, Jake Hamilton and Quenton Parker finished with 17, 16 and 12 points, respectively. The Tritons shot 59.3% from the field, including 16 for 26 (61.5%) from 3-point range. The hot shooting didn’t continue in Sunday’s loss as UMSL went 1 for 12 from beyond the arc against the Peacocks. Makeer Makeer scored a team-high 16 points, and Hamilton and Davis had 14 each, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Upper Iowa, which had five players in double figures, connected on 10 3-pointers and shot 57.7% from the field in the first half while opening up a 42-30 advantage. The Tritons fell to 9-6 on the season, including 3-3 in GLVC play. They will visit Rockhurst on Thursday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
