Baseball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis baseball team went 2-2 last week, dropping a midweek game against Davenport but taking two of three in a weekend series with Hillsdale. The Tritons fell 12-7 on Thursday against the Panthers after surrendering five runs in the top of the ninth inning at the Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville, Illinois. Ayden Cline homered in the loss. The three-game set against Hillsdale was also played in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Chargers won Friday’s series opener 10-3, but UMSL bounced back to win 5-2 on Saturday and 10-7 on Sunday. Eli Cartwright struck out 12 Hillsdale batters in five innings while he yielded only one run. Justin Terhaar had three of the Tritons’ seven hits in Saturday’s victory. Mitch Bonczkowski scored twice and drove in a run in win. Bonczkowski had four hits on Sunday. Garrett Strenger and Justin Simard each had three hits. Strenger homered and drove in a pair of runs. Simard had three runs and two RBI. Coach Scott Eul’s team had 15 hits. UMSL (6-10) will look to add to its winning streak when it opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a four-game series against Truman State beginning Friday at the UMSL Baseball Field.

Softball
The Tritons split a doubleheader with Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday at Incarnate Word Academy after having Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader with Purdue Northwest canceled because of inclement weather. UMSL took the opening game on Sunday 4-3. Rylie Buchanan hit a first-inning grand slam for UMSL’s only runs, and pitcher Ashley Borowitz made it hold despite surrendering three runs – none of them earned – in the top of the second. The Tritons managed only three hits in the win. Borowitz gave up four hits while striking out seven to pick up the victory and improve to 3-5 on the season. UMSL managed nine hits in a 7-6 loss to Parkside in Sunday’s second game. Kiley Sullivan and Jamie Widule each had three hits, Sullivan drove in a team-high two runs, and the Phoebe Miller hit a solo home run in the loss. Parkside scored four runs off starter Ashley Ware and three off reliever Jayla Plotz. The Tritons (7-13) will open GLVC play on the road next weekend as they visit Rockhurst on Saturday and travel to Southwest Baptist on Sunday.

Men’s Golf
UMSL finished in a tie for 10th out of 20 teams in the Las Vegas Classic, which concluded Tuesday at the Desert Hawk Coyote Run Course at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. The Tritons, who served as the tournament’s hosts, posted a combined score of 880 and were 28 shots back of tournament winner West Florida in the 54-hole event. Ludvig Granlund led UMSL with a told of 213, including a final round of 71, to finish in a tie for ninth out of 108 golfers. Dani Solavera posted a total of 219, Logan Mayo finished at 224, Trigg Lindahl scored 230, and Leo Baudry was at 231. Andy Hennen, competing as an individual, had a total of 242. Florida Southern’s Max Barile claimed medalist honors with a final score of 202, beating runner-up Edward Mason of Lincoln Memorial by six shots. UMSL will next compete in the Findlay Spring Invitational March 23-24 at Boone Trace Golf Course in Richmond, Kentucky.

Women’s Golf
The 25th-ranked Tritons were tied for ninth after the first day of play at the Emerald Coast Collegiate tournament they’re hosting at Sandestin–Baytown Golf Club in Destin, Florida. UMSL posted a combined score of 30-over-par 304 in Sunday’s first round and was even with Columbus State. No. 6 Texas-Tyler led the 17-team field with a combined score of 287 through the first 18 holes. No. 10 Flagler was four strokes back in second place. Hillary Currier paced the Tritons with an even-par 71 in the first round and was tied for seventh, two shots off the individual lead. Wilma Zanderau posted a 3-over-par 74 and was tied for 26th. Mayan Covarrubias carded a round of 77, as it Elaina Ervin, playing as an individual. The 54-hole tournament continues on Monday and will conclude on Tuesday.
