MADCO: Momentum at UMSL

MADCO, the resident dance company at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will pick up speed in “Momentum” by performing the work of some of the nation’s hottest choreographers, including Gina Patterson (Austin, Texas) and Janice Garrett (San Francisco).

If you missed it at “New Dance Horizons” this fall, this is your chance to see Gina Patterson’s “Second Line” with live music featuring Brian Casserly, Tony Esterly, Joe Pastor and Matt Murdick.

Choreographer and dancer Joseph Mills – formerly of MADCO and MOMIX – is set to perform “Circle Walker,“ described by The New York Times as “a new-age Icarus flips and flies into space propelled by and propelling a giant, gyroscopic sculpture … there is a yearning for unbounded flight here that is visionary.”

“Momentum” will begin at 8 p.m. March 22 and 23 at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL. A matinee performance will begin at 2 p.m. March 23 at the Touhill. Tickets are $15-$25.

Doors for the evening performances will open at 7:10 p.m. for a pre-performance discussion.

The MADCO matinee performance will allow people of all ages to enjoy a shorter version of each show and interact with the dancers. Stacy West, artistic director of MADCO, will host.
