UMSL's Hannah Perryman (23) and Brittni Chapman

KSDK recently featured UMSL’s Hannah Perryman (23) and Brittni Chapman for their pitching dominance.

A pair of pitchers for the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team has left batters baffled this season, according to KSDK (Channel 5). The duo, junior Brittni Chapman and sophomore Hannah Perryman, were featured by the news station for their dominance in the circle and contributions to the No. 10 ranked UMSL Tritons’ 26-3 record.

“I’ve developed a nickname throughout my younger years as Bulldog,” said Chapman, who is majoring in educational studies with an emphasis in exercise science.

“I’m mean when I’m on the mound,” said Perryman, a criminology and criminal justice major, smiling. “I’m mean.”

Their fierceness isn’t just show either. Both pitchers have thrown no-hitters and earned All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team honors.

“We have all the tools,” Chapman told KSDK, referring to the Tritons. “The only way we’ll lose is if we beat ourselves.”

The added limelight of local sports coverage has done little to deter the success of the pitchers or the team. Since the feature aired, the Tritons have won all four of their games behind nearly flawless pitching by Chapman and Perryman.

Chapman, who entered the season ranked second all-time in UMSL career ERA (1.19), threw two complete-game victories giving up only one run in each game. Perryman, a Third-Team All-American in her first year, pitched a pair of complete-game shutouts.

In one of the games, Perryman struck out 20 batters to become UMSL’s all-time strike out leader and tie the NCAA single-game record. She was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week.
