UMSL men's golfer Joe Atkisson

Joe Atkisson of the University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s golf team has been tabbed as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second straight year, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

He is one of 75 golfers in NCAA Division II to earn the honor.

Atkisson, a three-time all-region and all-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree, posted a scoring average of 74.89 during the 2013-14 season. He was a two-time runner-up individually and posted five top-10 finishes.

Atkisson wrapped up a four-year stellar career this spring and leaves as the program’s career stroke average leader at 75.27. He also owns career marks in par or better rounds (27) and rounds played (128).

In the classroom, Atkisson owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.243, while majoring in business administration with an international business emphasis and a minor in Spanish.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0 in Division II and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
