Senior goalkeeper Nick Lenkman of the University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s soccer team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Lenkman, a business administration major, recorded a 4-0 shutout at Truman State on Friday and returned home to deny a goal to No. 6 and Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season champion Quincy on Sunday. Playing in goal for all 200 minutes last week, Lenkman recorded one save in Friday’s shutout over the Bulldogs and then tallied a career-best 10 saves in the scoreless tie against the Hawks. Sunday marked the first time all season Quincy was held off the board. The St. Louis native, who now has six shutouts on the year, earns his first career award and is the first UMSL defender to be honored with the accolade since goalie Patrick Ream on Sept. 24, 2012.

UMSL (11-3-2, 10-3-1 GLVC) will close out the regular season on Wednesday, hosting Maryville. The Tritons then begin GLVC Tournament play on Sunday by hosting an opponent to be determined in a first round game.
