A select group of the most talented music students at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will perform tomorrow in a judged concerto competition. The third annual UMSL Concerto Competition Finals will be from 3 to 6 p.m. in the E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The finalists include Rachael Charles, viola; Ashley Dickson, violin; Daniel Dickson, cello; Sean Hamre, cello; Tess Keough, viola; John Nuckols, piano; Elisabeth Oar, cello; and Lauren Weber, soprano.

The students will perform works by several composers, including Dvorak, Elgar, Bartok, Gershwin, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The winner of the competition will be chosen by judges Daniel Schene, piano professor at Webster University in Webster Groves, Mo., and Susan Slaughter, principal trumpet of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. The selected student will perform a solo during a concert in the spring with either the UMSL Orchestra or UMSL Symphonic Band.

The Touhill is on UMSL’s North Campus, One University Blvd. in St. Louis, Mo. 63121. The competition is sponsored by the Department of Music at UMSL.
