Senior forward Miriam Taylor scored in overtime Friday night to give the Tritons women’s soccer team a 3-2 victory over Lewis. Another win on Sunday pushed UMSL’s match-winning streak to five.
Women’s Soccer
UMSL extended its winning streak to five over the weekend with a 3-2 overtime victory over Lewis Friday night and 1-0 shutout of Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday. Sophomore McKayla Harder scored two of the three goals against Lewis, while senior Miriam Taylor netted the game-winner in overtime. Sophomore Lauren Lottmann accounted for the lone goal against UWP. Emily Mosier assisted as she had on the game-winner Friday night. UMSL (8-2, 8-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) travels to Indianapolis and Saint Joseph’s on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Men’s Soccer
UMSL picked up wins over Lewis (1-0) and Wisconsin-Parkside (2-1) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Sophomore Jake Meyerkord netted the goal against Lewis, while seniors DJ Bednar and Pim Boonstra scored in a span of 45 seconds against UW-Parkside to propel the Tritons to victory. UMSL (8-3-1, 7-2-1 GLVC) will be at Indianapolis and Saint Joseph’s on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Volleyball
The Tritons went 2-1 last week with wins at Maryville (3-2) and over Quincy (3-0). Their lone loss came at home against Truman State (3-0). Senior Lexi Rogers led the offense with 2.64 kills and 0.73 blocks per set, while junior Danielle Waedekin averaged 5.28 digs per set. In its win over Quincy, UMSL served up a season-high 10 aces. UMSL (11-5, 6-3 GLVC) will travel to Aurora, Illinois, this Friday and Saturday for the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament, where the Tritons will face Saginaw Valley State, Findlay and Lake Erie.
Women’s Tennis
UMSL claimed three titles at its own fall tournament last weekend, including sophomore Jennifer Hauer winning the A flight singles, junior Patricia Maya winning the B flight singles and graduate students Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino winning the A flight doubles.
Women’s Golf
UMSL sat in first place after the opening round of the Findlay-Beall Fall Classic, shooting a 309. Individually, sophomore Maxi Roth was in a three-way tie for first with a 73. The final 18 holes were being played Monday.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The Triton swimming teams opened their seasons at the Show-Me-Showdown, which featured the state of Missouri’s collegiate swimming teams on Friday in Columbia. On the men’s side, freshman Gabriel Jimenez had the Tritons’ top finish, placing fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, while on the women’s side sophomore Agnieszka Blocka set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.30 and also swam the third leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay, which also set a school record in 3:46.84. The Tritons return to the pool on Saturday, hosting Lindenwood-Belleville at 2 p.m.
