The University of Missouri–St. Louis Symphonic Band will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. March 3 in the Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public and will include a guest performance by the Metro Academic and Classical High School Concert Band from St. Louis.
Led by conductor Marquita Reef, the Metro Academic and Classical High School Concert Band will begin the show with performances of “Yagi-Bushi” by Naohiro Iwai, “March to the Scaffold” from “Symphonie Fantastique” by Hector Berlioz and “Tangents Angular” by Roland Barrett.
The UMSL Symphonic Band, led by Gary Brandes, director of bands at UMSL, will follow with performances of “Nitro” by Frank Ticheli, First suite in E Flat, Op. 28, No. 1 by Gustav Holst, “Australian Up-Country Tune” by Percy Aldridge Grainger and “Shadows of Eternity” by Thomas Stone.
The concert will conclude with the bands combining to perform “Folk Dances” by Dmitri Shostakovich, “… and the antelope play” by John Carnahan and “Who’s Who in Navy Blue” by John Philip Sousa.
