Former Anheuser-Busch executive Stephen J. Burrows (pictured) has been named director of the International Business Institute at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Burrows served as the chief executive and president of Anheuser-Busch International Inc. until retiring in November 2008 after a 30-year career at Anheuser-Busch and 15 years overseeing the company’s international development. Burrows also served as vice chairman of the board of directors of Tsingtao Brewery Co. and on the board of directors of Harbin Brewery Group Ltd. (Both companies are based in China.)

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to be named director of the International Business Institute at UMSL, to work with the talented faculty, international business professionals, and the outstanding and energetic students,” Burrows said. “The international business landscape will continue to provide many opportunities, and with the excellent international degree programs offered by UMSL, we are developing our students to become very capable business leaders for the future.”

Burrows will replace Allan Bird, the Eiichi Shibusawa-Seigo Arai Professor of Japanese Studies at UMSL, as director of the IBI on Aug. 15.
