The UMSL Tritons received 18 points from senior Alyssa Like, while senior Devonna Smith registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. UMSL is in Nashville, Tenn., this weekend for the Pops Duncan Classic. The Tritons face host Trevecca Nazarene on Friday before meeting Grand Valley State on Saturday.
The University of Missouri–St. Louis opened its 2013-14 season on Saturday with 57-52 victory at NCAA Division I opponent Saint Louis in its lone exhibition game. Senior transfer Alyssa Like led the UMSL Tritons with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Devonna Smith had 11 points and nine rebounds. UMSL will officially tip-off its season on November 16, hosting Lindenwood at 5:30 p.m.

It’s a new era in UMSL women’s basketball as first-year head coach Katie Vaughn takes the reins of the program. “Things have been going well and I am enjoying it,” said Vaughn. “Everyone is upbeat and positive about what we want to get done here. The girls are working hard and are doing what I am asking of them. We just need to keep taking strides in the right direction.”
