Level Three: Creating Cultures of Inclusion
Module 1: Diversity & Inclusion on Campus
This module introduces an Inclusive Excellence Framework ,
which is being implemented at UMSL and at many other universities to guide institutional efforts at integrating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of operations and functioning. Although the inclusive excellence model was developed for higher education, it has useful implications for all organizational contexts.
Module 2: What’s culture got to do with it? Introduction to Cultural Competence
Cultural competence is the ability to understand, communicate, and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. This module provides a framework for developing cultural competence as well as tools to better understand one’s own cultural background and that of others.
Module 3: Building Blocks for Inclusion & Action Planning
The content in this module provides a framework and resources for building a culture of inclusion through our individual actions: inclusive attitudes, inclusive practices, and inclusive language. The culmination of this module is a personal action plan for implementing inclusive practices.
