Volleyball
UMSL went 3-0 at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament last weekend, defeating Davis & Elkins (3-1), Purdue Northwest (3-0) and Ashland (3-1). Redshirt sophomore Maddy Russell averaged 3.82 kills per set, while sophomore Selena Nolte contributed 3.55 kills per set, hitting .405. The Tritons hit a combined .297 in the three wins and also racked up 24 service aces, including six from senior Danielle Waedekin. UMSL (14-6, 4-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) is back home this weekend, hosting Missouri S&T on Friday and Truman State on Saturday.
Women’s Soccer
The Tritons opened the weekend with a 3-1 win at Drury but lost 2-1 Sunday at Missouri S&T in its 2017 road finale. Senior Emily Mosier scored in each game. UMSL (4-7-3, 3-7-2 GLVC) will host Maryville on Friday night in its lone game of the week before closing out the year Oct. 25 at home against Bellarmine.
Men’s Soccer
UMSL lost a 4-1 decision at Drury on Friday night before playing Missouri S&T to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. Senior Pat Ries scored all three UMSL goals, bringing his season total to 11. He moved into a tie for 10th place on the program’s single-season charts for goals scored. He continues to lead the GLVC in both goals scored and points (25). The Tritons (5-6-3, 5-5-2 GLVC) will host Maryville on Friday night in its lone game of the week. Prior to the contest, UMSL will honor its senior class.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The Tritons men’s and women’s swimming teams each defeated Maryville last Friday night in a triangular hosted by Truman State, while the Bulldogs defeated the Tritons. The men claimed four victories, including two from Patryk Golinski in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles. Both UMSL teams return to the pool on Oct. 28, hosting Maryville in its home opener at 1 p.m.
Men’s Golf
Sophomore Chris Ferris recorded his third top-10 finish this season, placing fourth at the Midwest Regional held last Monday and Tuesday at Fox Run. He fired rounds of 74 and 71 to post a 145, two strokes out of a playoff for medalist honors. Ferris helped the Tritons to a third-place team finish with a combined score of 594 (300-294). UMSL is at the West Florida Tournament today and tomorrow.
