Baseball
UMSL split the first two games of a weekend series against Drury at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park. The Tritons lost 10-4 in Saturday evening’s opener, giving up four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth. Cooper Blythe had three of UMSL’s nine hits and also scored a run in the loss. The Tritons bounced back on Sunday behind a strong start from Bryce Nicolay. He threw a complete game, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits and striking out seven in UMSL’s 4-2 victory. Mitch Bonczkowski, Cade Grevengoed and Luke Saxton each drove in a run in the win, which snapped the Tritons’ eight-game losing streak. UMSL will wrap up its four-game series against Drury with a doubleheader today and will take on Missouri Western on Tuesday in St. Joseph, Missouri. Coach Scott Eul‘s team will then return home for a four-game Alumni Weekend series against Rockhurst beginning Friday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field.

Softball
The Tritons went 1-3 over the weekend while playing doubleheaders against Lewis and Indianapolis on the road. UMSL’s lone victory was a 5-1 win in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Greyhounds. Hannah Tomlianovich hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to lift the Tritons to a 2-1 lead, and they tacked on a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. May Pasqualini hit a two-run bases-loaded double that scored Lexi Sherrick and Megan Russell to cap the scoring. Ashley Ware got the win in relief, holding UIndy scorless for five innings while pitching around three hits and four walks. The victory snapped an eight game losing streak. That streak included getting swept in Saturday’s doubleheader against Lewis by scores of 3-0 and 7-6. UMSL had a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the fourth in the second game, but the Flyers plated four runs to gain the upper hand. Simia Spahiev homered and drove in four runs in the loss, and Tomlianovich had a two-run double. The Tritons (12-21) dropped the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader 4-2 as the Greyhounds tagged starter Ashley Borowitz for three runs in the fifth inning. Coach Chelsey Mulligan‘s team will play host to Quincy Saturday for its Alumni Day doubleheader and will also take on visiting Upper Iowa on Sunday at the UMSL Softball Field.

Men’s Tennis
The Tritons went 2-1 last week, winning duals against Quincy and Southwest Baptist before losing to No. 31 Drury. The Tritons took two of three doubles matches and scored singles wins from Tanin Ramnath at No. 2, Percy Siercke at No. 3, Bautista Rooney at No. 5 and Jose Yanez at No. 6. All four singles wins were in straight sets. UMSL got swept in doubles in Friday’s dual against Southwest Baptist at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri, but the Tritons rallied for a 4-3 dual victory with strong play in singles. Ramnath won when his opponent retired, but Siercke pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Bojan Radoman at No. 3 singles, and Daniel Berdecio won 6-1, 7-6 (4) over Alejandro Diaz at No. 4, leaving the dual to be decided at No. 6. Robert Henry bested Federico Riolo 7-6 (6), 7-5 to give UMSL the victory. The Tritons (7-6) were overmatched in Sunday’s 4-0 loss to the Panthers, also at the Cooper Tennis Complex. They will look to bounce back as they open GLVC play at home against Illinois Springfield on Friday and Lewis on Saturday.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL opened the week by routing Quincy 7-0 on Tuesday at the UMSL Tennis Courts in a dual rescheduled from the previous weekend. The Tritons swept all three doubles matches and went 6-0 in singles. The Tritons didn’t fare as well over the weekend at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri. They lost to Southwest Baptist 4-2 on Friday and fell to Drury 4-1 on Saturday.
