University of Missouri–St. Louis Chancellor Kristin Sobolik speaks to members of the Chancellor’s Council, the UMSL Alumni Association Board of Directors and additional supporters, friends and community members during a reception on Wednesday in the E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.

The occasion served as a chance to thank Sobolik – who will retire at the end of June – for the work she’s done leading the university over the past nine years, first as provost and over the past six years as the university’s eighth chancellor. University of Missouri President Mun Choi, Curator Lyda Krewson and Chancellor’s Council Vice President Joseph Blanner all spoke to the impact Sobolik has made during her tenure, including increasing the university’s graduation rates, growing research and spurring philanthropic giving, helping align UMSL’s academic programs with the workforce needs of the St. Louis region and leading a physical transformation of the university’s campus to support students now and in the future.

Sobolik shared what the university has meant to her.

“I’m so grateful and honored for all of you,” Sobolik said. “I love UMSL. I love the University of Missouri–St. Louis, and it has truly been the honor and a privilege of a lifetime to serve as the chancellor here at the university. UMSL has transformed my life, and it will never be the same again, just like it’s transformed many of your lives as well.”
