“The Other Picture,” a survey of photographic images created by eight contemporary painters, will be on display from Oct. 24 to Nov. 20 at Gallery FAB on the North Campus of the University of Missouri─St. Louis.
This exhibition was conceived as an opportunity to further consider how contemporary painters work with the photographic process to support and inform their painting strategies. The show consists of eight different artists’ photographs.
These artists are based throughout the country and represent a diverse range of content. Some use the photographic process as reference for their paintings, some see it as a separate outlet for image-making and others recognize photography as just something we all do as new technologies and devices have made the ability to make a photograph almost effortless.
The artists featured in this exhibit are Roz Akin and Stacie Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brian Dehart of Tulsa, Okla., Michelle Forsythe of Pullman, Wash., Chris Reno of Iowa City, Iowa, Michael Woody of Urbana, Ill., Christine Ilewski of Alton, Ill., and Michael Rosenfeld of Los Angeles.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27.
Gallery FAB is in 201 Fine Arts Building at Rosedale Drive and Florissant Road in St. Louis County (63121). All exhibits at the gallery are free and open to the public. Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
