In connection with its International Conference Nov. 10-12, Women in the Arts at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will present “Life! Love! Song! A Visit with Gena Branscombe,” a one-woman show from New York City, at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Unity Lutheran Church, 8454 Glen Echo Drive in Bel-Nor, Mo.
The pre-conference Women in the Arts “Special Event” will feature soprano Kathleen Shimeta on vocals and accompanist Martin Hennessey on piano. The concert is free and open to the public.
A versatile interpreter of art songs, mezzo-soprano Kathleen Shimeta celebrates musical and theatrical excellence in “Life! Love! Song! A Visit with Gena Branscombe.” Shimeta’s lively and elegant portrayal of Gena Branscombe has been enthusiastically received from coast-to-coast in America.
The one-woman show showcases 15 of Branscombe’s elegantly lyrical songs with vivid first-person dialogue. The show gives tribute to a woman ahead of her time, a pioneer for today’s women composers.
The cost of the Nov. 10-12 conference is $25 for one day, $50 for two days and $70 for the entire conference. Vendors wishing to participate in the marketplace must pay a one-time fee of $30. UMSL students, faculty and staff may attend for free.
