Just in time for the holidays, Barbara Harbach, professor of music at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, has released “Music of Barbara Harbach, Volume 7: Music for Strings,” a new recording on compact disc.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by David Angus, recorded the CD for the MSR Classics label (CD MS1258). It the latest volume of Harbach’s ongoing series with MSR and features several selections from her compositions, including: “Sinfonietta” (2010); “In Memoriam: Turn Around, O My Soul” (2010); “Freedom Suite” (2010); “Two Songs from the Sacred Harp” (2010); “Demarest Suite” (2009-10); “Nights in Timisoara” (2010); and “Lilia Polka” (2009).

Harbach said she is very pleased to have her compositions recorded by the London Philharmonic.

“David Angus and the London Phil are incredible musicians, and I feel unbelievably fortunate that they recorded my pieces,” she said.

Harbach tours extensively as both concert organist and harpsichordist. As a composer, she has written symphonies; operas; works for chamber ensemble, string orchestra, organ and harpsichord; musicals; choral anthems; film scores; modern ballets; and many arrangements for brass and organ of various Baroque works.

MSR Classics has previously released Harbach’s “Chamber Music III” (MS1257); “Vocal Music” (MS1256); “Chamber Music II” (MS1255); and “Toccatas, Flourishes & Fugues, A Celebration of Hymns” for organ solo (MS1254).
