The Arianna String Quartet, including (from left) violinist John McGrosso, violinist David Gillham, cellist Kurt Baldwin and violist Joanna Mendoza, will perform the world premiere of David Stock’s Quartet No. 9 on March 2 at the Touhill.

The centerpiece for the third Arianna String Quartet concert this season will be the world premiere of David Stock’s Quartet No. 9. Stock wrote the work for the Arianna, the resident quartet at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The composition will be performed during the concert “Arianna String Quartet: World Premiere” at 8 p.m. March 2 at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL.

Doors will open at 7:10 p.m. for a pre-concert discussion with members of the Arianna String Quartet.

The New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Seattle Symphony and St. Paul (Minn.) Chamber Orchestra have performed Stock’s award-winning compositions. In addition to Stock’s Quartet No. 9, the Arianna String Quartet will also perform Beethoven’s Quartet in F minor, OP. 95, “Serioso” and Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No. 3 in E-Flat minor.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has hailed the internationally acclaimed Arianna String Quartet – violinists John McGrosso and David Gillham, violist Joanna Mendoza and cellist Kurt Baldwin – as one of the cultural gems of the St. Louis region. In addition to their concert series in St. Louis at the Touhill, the Arianna routinely performs throughout the United States.

Tickets for “Arianna String Quartet: World Premiere” are $23. They are on sale now at the Touhill ticket office; online at touhill.org or by phone at 314-516-4949.

The Touhill’s ticket office is on UMSL’s North Campus, 1 University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121).
