UMSL senior Ashleigh King

Senior outfielder Ashleigh King of the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team has been named to the 2014 Division II District 4 Capital One Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their performance in the classroom and on the field.

The St. Louis native has maintained a 4.00 grade point average in education.

King has started all 47 games in centerfield for the nationally ranked UMSL Tritons. The lone senior on the team, she boasts a batting average of .304 with 48 hits, including 10 doubles, 21 RBIs and 33 runs. King is also 8-for-8 in stolen bases. Defensively, she has not committed an error.

King, along with baseball senior Paul Richmond, are the first UMSL student-athletes to earn Capital One Academic All-District honors since 2011 when JaCee Ellis (softball) and Clara Vila (women’s golf) were both honored in their respective sports.

To be eligible for nomination to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or an important reserve.

King is now eligible to be selected to the Academic All-America Team.
