Five doctoral programs at the University of Missouri–St. Louis received high national rankings recently from Academic Analytics, a company that ranks doctoral programs based on faculty scholarly productivity.

Programs in counselor education and teaching-learning processes in the College of Education; information systems in the College of Business Administration; and criminal justice and criminology and evolutionary biology in the College of Arts and Sciences all ranked in the top 20 most productive when compared to faculty in other similar programs nationally.

“For the last decade UMSL has been placing more emphasis on research,” said Glen Cope, UMSL’s provost.  “Now our faculty’s efforts have paid off. We are so pleased to once again receive these national rankings for our programs.”

This is the third year UMSL’s faculty has received national rankings.

Academic Analytics, LLC is based in Stony Brook, N.Y. The index measures the scholarly productivity of faculty based on their publications, citations, grants and honorary awards. The study included 168,068 faculty members associated with 8,849 PhD programs at 387 universities in the United States.

UMSL’s faculty productivity in doctoral programs and their rankings by Academic Analytics include:

* UMSL’s counselor education faculty ranked in the top ten in its subject area along with State University of New York at Buffalo, Auburn University in Alabama and the University of Maryland in College Park.

* UMSL’s information systems faculty also ranked in the top ten in its subject area along with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and University of Arizona in Tucson.

* Criminology and criminal justice faculty at UMSL ranked in the top 20 in its subject area along with the University of California–Berkley, the University of Illinois–Chicago and Arizona State University in Phoenix.

*Evolutionary biology faculty at UMSL ranked in the top 20 in its subject area along with the University of California–Santa Barbara, Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.  and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

* Teaching and learning processes faculty at UMSL ranked in the top 20 in its subject area long with Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., the University of Texas at Austin and New York University.
