Political scientist Nadia Brown will discuss “The Impact of Identity on the Representation of Black Women Legislators” for the latest lecture in the Women, Gender and Political Institutions speaker series. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Student Government Chamber, Millennium Student Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

Brown is an assistant professor of political science at Saint Louis University. Her current research focuses on the role that identity plays in legislative decision making and representation. Specifically, her project explores the complexities of representing the intersections of race, gender and class in policy deliberations by investigating how black female office holders legislate “intersectional issues” that are pertinent to members of marginally disadvantaged subgroups.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The Millennium Student Center is on the North Campus at UMSL, One University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121).
