Stephen Moehrle, associate professor of accounting at UMSL, received the 2010 Accounting Horizons Best Paper Award.
Stephen Moehrle, associate professor of accounting at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, received the 2010 Accounting Horizons Best Paper Award recently from the American Accounting Association. The award was given to Moehrle, along with his co-authors, for the paper “The Impact of Academic Accounting Research on Professional Practice: An Analysis by the AAA Research Impact Task Force.”
The paper was written by a task force of professors with expertise in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxes and information systems from universities across the country such as Michigan State University in East Lansing, the University of Oklahoma in Norman and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Moehrle was the chairman of the task force and principal author of the financial accounting section of the paper.
“It truly is an honor,” Moehrle said. “The winning paper is determined by a vote of the American Accounting Association members. The AAA, as it is known, serves all accounting professors in the United States and thousands of members from other countries. Receiving recognition from that population makes the award especially fulfilling.”
The paper investigates and demonstrates the impact of academic research on all aspects of accounting practice.
The Accounting Horizons Best Paper Award is presented by the American Accounting Association to the best paper published each calendar year. Founded in 1916, the American Accounting Association is the largest community of accountants in academia.
Moehrle, a resident of Creve Coeur, Mo., joined the UMSL faculty in 1999, and is an expert in financial accounting and reporting.
He’s has published numerous articles in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and currently serves as the senior associate editor of Research and Accounting Regulation. Moehrle has previously served on the American Accounting Association’s Financial Accounting Standards Committee and co-wrote the book “The CPA Profession: Opportunities, Responsibilities, and Services.”
