Softball
No. 3 ranked University of Missouri–St. Louis swept a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference road contests last weekend, taking two from Rockhurst on Saturday before pounding out a combined 13 home runs in two wins at William Jewell on Sunday. Senior Katie Wood tallied six hits in the four games, including four home runs, and finished with seven RBIs and five runs scored, while junior Hannah Perryman went 2-0 with a pair of five-inning complete game victories. She struck out 24 in 12 total innings, which also included her 900th career strikeout. The UMSL Tritons (25-3, 10-2) will wrap up their current 10-game road swing tomorrow (Tuesday) at Maryville before hosting Truman State on Friday. UMSL then closes out the week with a doubleheader at Quincy on Saturday.
Baseball
UMSL lost both games of a doubleheader at Missouri S&T on Sunday in the start of a four-game series. The hosts Miners recorded 33 hits en route to victories of 10-5 and 14-1. Junior Justin Busekrus had two hits in the opener and drove in the lone run in game two. The Tritons (11-4, 6-4 GLVC) will close out the series at Missouri S&T today with a Noon doubleheader and return home this Friday and Saturday to host Drury.
Men’s Tennis
UMSL went 2-1 last week with its lone loss coming at No. 27 ranked Southern Indiana, 7-2, last Monday. The Tritons closed out the week with a pair of GLVC victories, sweeping Truman State, 9-0, before an 8-1 win over Quincy. Senior Tim McLarty won all three of his singles matches to extend his win streak to eight matches and also went 2-1 in doubles, while freshman Alberto Maza-Martin went 6-0 on the week with three wins each in singles and doubles. UMSL (7-5, 2-0 GLVC) will face NCAA DIII foe Washington U. on Thursday before hosting William Jewell on Saturday.
Women’s Tennis
UMSL ran its win streak to five matches last week before having it snapped with a 6-3 loss to No. 21 ranked Northeastern State on Sunday. The Tritons began the week with wins at Southern Indiana (6-3), at Truman State (8-1) and against Quincy (7-2). Senior Leanne Cantalupo went a combined 8-0 in singles and doubles, extending her singles win streak to 14 matches and her doubles win streak with Natalia Carvalhais to six matches. UMSL (7-5, 3-0 GLVC) hosts William Jewell on Saturday in its lone contest of the week.
Women’s Golf
UMSL traveled to Ponte Verde, Fla., on Friday to face No. 4 Flagler in a duel and lost by seven strokes, 315-308. Bailey Hopper and Jnana Yanez were the top finishers for the Tritons, turning in 77’s to tie for third place. UMSL will host The Triton at Norwood Hills next Sunday and Monday.
Men’s Golf
UMSL tied for first place at the North Alabama Spring Classic, held last Sunday and Monday, firing a nine-over par 873, while sophomore Matt Barry claimed individual runner-up honors with a career-best 214 (70-71-73). The Tritons are back on the links this Friday and Saturday at The Jewell Midwest Regional, hosted by Bellarmine in Batavia, Ohio.
