The UMSL Tritons baseball team (22-12, 16-12 GLVC) will wrap up its regular season with a doubleheader Wednesday and four-game series this weekend.
Softball
No. 3 ranked University of Missouri–St. Louis split with visiting Bellarmine on Sunday, winning the opener, 4-1, before a 5-3 eight inning loss in game two. Senior Hannah Wessels went 4-for-7 on the day with two runs scored, while senior Brianna Butler added three hits and a pair of RBIs. Junior Hannah Perryman recorded the victory in the opener. The UMSL Tritons (39-5, 24-4) will close out the regular season today at Noon against No. 15 Southern Indiana and will travel to Peoria, Ill., Friday-Sunday for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship.
Baseball
UMSL split with Truman State on Sunday in the start of a four-game series, winning the nightcap, 1-0, behind junior Cody Spotanski’s RBI single in the fifth inning. Sophomore Kevin Smith scored the game-winning run and recorded three hits on the day. The Tritons also picked up a mid-week non-conference win at Illinois Springfield, 13-3, on Wednesday. Sophomore Jake Beckwith finished with three hits and scored two runs. The Tritons (22-12, 16-12 GLVC) will wrap up their series against Truman State today at Noon before hosting Lincoln in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. UMSL then closes out its regular season Saturday and Sunday with a four-game series at Quincy.
Men’s Golf
UMSL won the program’s first-ever GLVC Championship last Tuesday, defeating Lewis, 3-2, in the match play final, after a 3-2 win over two-time defending league champion Indianapolis in the semifinals. The Tritons finished third in stroke play, while sophomore Julien de Poyen finished third individually, earning All-GLVC honors for his top-five finish. UMSL will begin play at the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional next Monday.
Women’s Golf
UMSL earned a second place finish at the GLVC Championships, held Friday-Sunday, posting a program 54-hole school record 926 (301-317-308). Individually, freshman Stefaniya Ivanova was runner-up and earned All-GLVC honors for her top five finish. She also set a program 54-hole school record, turning in a 225 (72-80-73). UMSL will learn this afternoon if it is selected for its sixth straight NCAA East Regional. The Tritons were ranked No. 4 in the latest regional rankings with the top nine earning a spot.
