The University of Missouri–St. Louis offers human resource professionals a prep course to increase their readiness to sit for the Professional in Human Resources and Senior Professional in Human Resources exams. The six-session course will be from Sept. 18 to Nov. 13 in the J.C. Penney Conference Center at UMSL. Offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management, the course will enable HR professionals to start and finish their SHRM Learning System training and sit for the PHR/SPHR certification exam.

The program is designed for HR professionals planning to take the PHR or SPHR certification exam, companies who value enhanced professionalism in the human resource function, experienced managers new to human resource management, PHR professionals seeking to upgrade their certification to SPHR, HR professionals who value career growth and a deeper understanding of the entire HR body of knowledge and certified PHR and SPHR professionals who want to earn credit toward recertification.

The intensive course will cover six functional areas, responsibilities and associated knowledge defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute. Sessions will focus on strategic management, workforce planning and employment, human resource development, total rewards, employee and labor relations, and risk management.

Participants who attend and actively engage in all six sessions, meeting SHRM’s prescribed requirements, will be awarded 3.5 continuing education units and a noncredit Chancellor’s Certificate from UMSL, as well as a SHRM certificate of completion.
