Featured stories:

The Daily Beast talked with Minsoo Kang, professor of history, about Andrew Lee, a crypto mogul, serial entrepreneur and occasional hip hop artist, who has claimed the title of King of Joseon and Crown Prince of Korea. Joseon is what Korea called itself over a century ago, under the 500-year reign of its last royal dynasty, the House of Yi (sometimes styled as “Lee”). Kang, however, says those claims are dubious, “At the end of the day, the kingdom does not exist anymore.”

Fox 2 Now tapped Michele Meckfessel, associate professor of accounting, to speak on the affordability crisis in St. Louis County as home values and, consequently, property taxes continue to rise. Meckfessel has researched tax issues for years. She said many $100,000-$200,000 homes saw increased values. “At the lower home values, it’s easier to see a larger percentage increase but it’s also those homes and the families that live in those homes that are seeing inflationary pressures in every aspect of their life,” she said.

Chaebong Nam, assistant professor of social studies education, reflected on civics education with St. Louis Public Radio. Nam said one of the keys to civics education is beginning with what’s important to students rather than focusing on rote learning. “Students are building their self-knowledge and self-reflection on who they are — their values,” Nam said. “Then they progressively develop this thought into bigger thoughts of government and other levers of power.”
