Lauryn Sanders recognizes that it can be hard to take a moment and breathe when there’s a lot going on – particularly at the end of the semester. That’s why she’s so excited to see University of Missouri–St. Louis students get a chance to relax and unwind a bit before finals during the university’s annual Mirthweek festivities.

“My favorite part is seeing so many people come out and enjoy themselves,” said Sanders, the president of University Program Board. “I feel like if I can impact someone’s day by just getting them to stop and have a conversation or participating in some games, I feel as though I’ve done my job. You never know what someone needs in the moment.”

This year’s Mirthweek takes place from April 21 through April 25, featuring now-signature annual events such as the Student Leadership Awards and Mirthweek Carnival as well as new events like an after party and Jeopardy-inspired trivia game. Sanders is particularly excited about the latter, which she said will be very interactive and fun, featuring categories that are very on-brand with what’s trending now.

“The Mirthweek tradition is a way for students to take a break from all the hard work they’ve done all semester,” Sanders said. “The word ‘mirth’ means joy, so it’s a time for students and people in the community to relax a little before finals and the end of the semester. I hope people can be in the moment to meet more people and stress less for finals.”
