In additional to the classics such as “Jingle Bells,” “White Christmas” and “12 Days of Christmas”, the “Christmas a cappella” concert presented by the German Culture Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will include an evening of ancient and contemporary German music.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre and feature the dynamic German quintet Calmus Ensemble Leipzig. The ensemble was formed in 1999 with five former members of the St. Thomas Boys‘ Choir. They soon had success performing concerts all over Germany, but decided they needed more flexibility in their choice of repertoire, a female voice. In 2001, Anja Lipfert joined the group with her bright soprano voice.
Calmus Ensemble Leipzig’s concert is sponsored by German Culture Center at UMSL, Goethe Institut and the Florissant Fine Arts Council. The Florissant Civic Center Theatre is located in the James J. Eagan Center, 1 James J. Eagan Drive.
Tickets for the “Christmas a cappella” concert are $27 for adults, $25 for senior citizens and students. Call 314-921-5678 for tickets or more information.
