The University of Missouri-St. Louis ensembles University Orchestra, University-Community Chorus, University Singers and Vocal Point will perform a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL. Admission is free and open to the public.
The repertoire will include “Scene Andalouse” by Joaquin Turina with a solo by violist Joanna Mendoza of the Arianna String Quartet, UMSL’s resident quartet; selected choruses from “Messiah” by George Frideric Handel; selected choruses from “Gloria” by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi; and other holiday classics.
James Richards, associate dean of academic affairs in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at UMSL, conducts University Orchestra. Robert Ray, professor of music at UMSL, directs the University-Community Chorus, which features about 100 UMSL students and members of the community.
University Singers is a chorus of 47 voice-auditioned students at UMSL. Vocal Point is a select ensemble of 18 a capella singers at UMSL. Jim Henry, director of choral studies at UMSL, is the conductor for both groups.
