"First, A Dream"

“First A Dream: Reflections for a Golden Jubilee 1963 – 2013” was edited by Ron Gossen, senior associate vice chancellor for University Marketing and Communications, and features essays and photos by UMSL students, faculty and staff.

UMSL’s Jubilee celebrations continue this fall starting with the release of the book “First A Dream: Reflections for a Golden Jubilee 1963 – 2013.”

A book launch and reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11, at the UMSL Bookstore in the Millennium Student Center. The book is available for sale at the UMSL Bookstore for $29.95 and online.

Edited by Ron Gossen, senior associate vice chancellor for University Marketing and Communications and written by faculty, students and staff, “First, A Dream” is a collection of essays on the men and women who shaped UMSL over the last 50 years. The book is filled with the dynamic photographs of campus photographer August Jennewein and vintage photos from University Archives. Gossen and some of the contributors will be at the reception to sign the book and talk about the university.

“This book captured the excitement of starting a brand new, major university,” said Michael Murray, Curators’ Teaching Professor of Media Studies at UMSL. “Campus pioneers can be very proud.”
