Men’s Basketball
The Tritons completed their home schedule with two wins last week, defeating McKendree, 86-82, on Thursday night, before rallying from 15 points down to pull off a 72-71 victory over Illinois Springfield on Saturday as senior Tre Ogles hit two free throws with 1.8 seconds left to win the game. Redshirt freshman Joshua Webster averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3 blocks and 1 steal per game in the two wins, while junior Hunter Reine led the Tritons against McKendree with a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. UMSL (10-12, 4-9 GLVC) will play its final five games of the regular season on the road, beginning Thursday at Bellarmine and then Saturday at Southern Indiana.
Women’s Basketball
UMSL posted victories over McKendree, 56-40, and Illinois Springfield, 61-53, last Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The Tritons limited the Bearcats to just three fourth-quarter points and only one field goal in the final 18 minutes and then received 13 points each from seniors Kelly Kunkel and Aber Daly against the Prairie Stars on Senior Day. Kunkel averaged 11.5 points per game, while junior Sydney Bloch came off the bench to add 10.5 points per game. The Tritons (9-12, 4-9 GLVC) begin a five-game road trip to close out the regular season at Bellarmine on Thursday before completing the weekend swing at Southern Indiana on Saturday.
Softball
UMSL kicked off the 2016 season at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend going 4-0. Senior Hannah Perryman went 3-0 with a save in the circle, striking out 35 batters in 21 innings faced. She closed out the tournament by striking out 14 of the 15 batters she faced in an 8-0 win over Union, recording her eighth career perfect game, tying the NCAA Division II record. Offensively, junior Alex Stupek batted .462, recording six hits, including two homeruns and five RBIs, while scoring seven runs. The Tritons are at Christian Brothers for a Tuesday doubleheader and then play six games at the Arkansas-Monticello 8-State Classic Friday through Sunday.
