UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The Tritons volleyball team picked up five-set victories over Drury and Missouri S&T to improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Volleyball
The Tritons picked up a pair of five-set victories at home last weekend, outlasting both Drury and Missouri S&T. Freshman Selena Nolte averaged 3.40 kills per set, while hitting .217, and added 1.00 blocks per set, while junior Danielle Waedekin averaged 6.10 digs per set. UMSL (9-4, 4-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) travels across town to Maryville on Tuesday night before returning home on Friday and Saturday to host Quincy and Truman State, respectively.

Women’s Soccer
UMSL ran its winning streak to three with two road victories last weekend, defeating Missouri S&T 2-1 on Friday and Drury 3-1 on Sunday. All five Triton goals were scored by different individuals, including freshman Sarah Lyon, who converted a penalty kick for her first collegiate goal in the win over S&T. She also assisted on senior Taylor Tosovsky’s goal in that contest. UMSL (6-2, 6-2 GLVC) returns home this weekend to host Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL saw its seven-match unbeaten streak snapped on Friday night with a 3-1 loss at Missouri S&T. The Tritons then suffered a 2-0 loss at 13th-ranked Drury on Sunday. Sophomore Jake Meyerkord had the lone Tritons goal on the weekend. UMSL (6-3-1, 5-2-1 GLVC) returns home this weekend to host Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Women’s Golf
UMSL picked up a 41-stroke victory last weekend at its own Fall Invite to earn its second team title of the year. The Tritons also had the top three individual finishers, including freshman Emma Thorngren, who claimed medalist honors for the first time in her young career. As a team, UMSL turned in the second best score in program history at 586 (290-296), while Thorngren finished with a total of 142 (71-71). The Tritons are at the Findlay Tournament next Sunday and Monday.

Men’s Tennis
Freshman Ben-Hur Kasprzak went 3-0 in singles play at the Eastern Illinois Fall Invitational to highlight action for UMSL as the Tritons closed out the fall portion of their schedule on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to Eastern Illinois, UMSL also competed against fellow conference foe McKendree and Chicago State. Kasprzak was also 2-1 in doubles with fellow freshman Lucas Lobao, while Lobao was 2-1 in singles.
