Sophomore Merel Visser swam a winning time of 1 minute, 1.27 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly during the Tritons’ home-opening tri-meet against Maryville and Lindenwood–Belleville.
Volleyball
UMSL ran its win streak to six matches on Friday with a 3-1 victory over Quincy with junior Alex Miner recording 12 kills, three aces and three blocks. But the Tritons’ string of victories came to the end the next day with a 3-1 loss to Great Lakes Valley Conference leader McKendree. UMSL (17-7, 7-6 GLVC) wraps up a five-match homestand on Tuesday, playing host to Maryville, before returning to the road Friday and Saturday at Indianapolis and Southern Indiana, respectively.
Women’s Soccer
The Tritons ended their season last Wednesday with a scoreless draw against Bellarmine. The team lost only once in its final seven games – with three victories and three ties. It finished the 2017 season with an overall mark of 5-7-4, including 4-7-3 in the GLVC.
Men’s Soccer
UMSL saw its season come to an end last Wednesday as Bellarmine scored 2 minutes and 1 second into overtime to post a 2-1 victory. Junior Oscar Gordillo had scored in the 81st minute to tie the game at 1. His goal came 25 seconds after the visiting Knights had grabbed the lead. The Tritons finished with a 5-8-3 record, including a 5-7-2 mark in the GLVC.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The men and women combined to win 16 events in their home opener as they defeated Maryville and Lindenwood-Belleville last Friday. On the women’s side, the Tritons won the 200-yard medley relay and picked up individual wins in five events. Sophomore Aga Blocka was part of the winning relay and also won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while Merel Visser won the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. The men won two relay events (200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle) and won eight individual events. Juniors Esteban Pombo and Radoslaw Chupka and sophomores Gabo Jimenez and Patryk Golinski all picked up three wins each. UMSL returns to the pool next Thursday and Friday at the Drury Invite.
Men’s Golf
The Tritons closed out the fall portion of their schedule last Monday and Tuesday at the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational with a runner-up finish. Senior Markus Lindberg placed fourth individually with a combined scored of 220 (78-66-76). He helped UMSL post a team score of 891 (307-277-307), second only to champion Central Oklahoma in the 16-team field.
