“Poster Girl,” the 2003 short film by Dutch video artist Hester Scheurwater, can be viewed through March 12 in Gallery 210 at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

As if trapped in the middle of a nightmare, the main protagonist of “Poster Girl” is haunted by disturbing visions, thoughts and fantasies, to which the viewer is likewise privy. The video is intended to be a compelling, albeit disconcerting, glimpse into the tumultuous inner life of an adult woman.

Scheurwater studied monumental art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. In her short films, she uses the camera to explore the isolation and disconnect humans sometimes feel between them and their inner selves, other people or their surroundings. Her video installations and experimental films have been shown throughout the world at festivals, museums and galleries.

All exhibits at Gallery 210 are free and open to the public. The gallery is in the Telecommunity Center at UMSL, 1 University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121). Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
