UMSL senior Chris Ferris finished with a three-round total of 212 – one of his personal best – to finish second individually at the Dog Spragg Invitational in Findlay, Ohio.
Men’s Golf
Senior Chris Ferris tied for second place individually while leading the Tritons to a third-place finish at last week’s Doc Spragg Invitational, hosted by Findlay last Monday and Tuesday. Ferris carded a total of 212 (73-71-69) over three rounds to finish three shots behind medalist Brendan Says of Wayne State. Joel Sylven also placed in the top five individually to help UMSL finish behind Wayne State and Findlay in the 18-team field. The Tritons finished with a combined score of 880 (301-292-287), nine shots out of the lead.
Volleyball
UMSL suffered its first loss of the season with a 3-1 setback at Drury last Friday in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener but bounced back to beat Southwest Baptist 3-1 on Saturday. Sophomore Charlotte Richards averaged 4.12 kills and 2.00 digs per set, while junior Kaileen Herman recorded 11.88 kills and 2.75 digs per set. She recorded a double-double in each contest and registered a season-best 57 assists in the Tritons’ victory. UMSL (13-1, 1-1) will play its first home matches of the season this weekend, hosting William Jewell and No. 13 ranked Rockhurst on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Men’s Soccer
The Tritons lost a 4-0 decision at McKendree on Friday and an 2-0 verdict at Southern Indiana on Sunday. The team (2-6, 0-5 GLVC) travels to Bellarmine on Friday and to Indianapolis on Sunday.
Women’s Soccer
UMSL lost 2-0 to McKendree last Friday despite junior Amber Hayes equaling a career-high 13 saves. The Tritons then suffered a 6-0 setback at Southern Indiana on Sunday. They put a season-high eight shots on goal but couldn’t overcome three penalty kicks by the home team. UMSL (1-6, 1-4 GLVC) travels to Bellarmine and Indianapolis next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Men’s Tennis
Sophomore Adrian Lessing and junior Karl Heinrichs have advanced to the A Doubles semifinals at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Allendale, Michigan. The No. 4 seed duo will face No. 1 seed Nico Hadeler and Gregor Kokalj of Drury on Monday afternoon for the right to play in the championship match. Heinrichs will also play in the championship match of the B Singles flight on Monday, facing the winner of a semifinal match between teammate Nathan Pinto and Hillsdale College’s Tyler Conrad. In B Doubles, senior Ben-Hur Kasprzak and junior Vitor Monteiro have advanced to the semifinals.
