UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The 18th-ranked men's basketball team went undefeated on the road last week with wins against Lindenwood, Illinois Springfield and Lewis. The effort pushed the Tritons into first place in the GLVC standings.
Tritons Weekly Rewind Jose Grubbs

Junior Jose Grubbs averaged 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last week as the 18th-ranked Tritons went undefeated on the road. Wins against Lindenwood, Illinois Springfield and Lewis pushed the Tritons into first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.

Men’s Basketball
No. 18 UMSL won all three of its games on the road last week to take over sole possession of first place in the GLVC standings, including at Lindenwood (103-80), at Illinois Springfield (63-55) and at Lewis (77-63). Junior Jose Grubbs averaged 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while junior Yaakema Rose Jr. added 15.0 and 3.3 steals per game. UMSL (18-2, 9-1) returns home on Thursday to host Southern Indiana before welcoming McKendree on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball
UMSL ended a three-game road trip with a 71-60 victory at Lewis on Saturday, handing the Flyers their first GLVC loss. The Tritons also lost an overtime game at Lindenwood (92-86) and fell at Illinois Springfield (60-48). Redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi averaged 17.3 points per game, while junior Alex LaPorta averaged 14.3 points and 7.0 rebounds. UMSL (8-11, 3-7 GLVC) hosts Southern Indiana and McKendree on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Men’s Swimming
No. 20 ranked UMSL won one event and had seven runner-up finishes as it competed in a triangular against No. 8 McKendree and Bellarmine last weekend. The 400 freestyle relay team came in first, while freshman Guillem Masjuan Roca, who led off that relay, was second individually in the 200 backstroke and the 200 IM. UMSL returns to the pool Saturday at Saint Louis in its final tune-up before the GLVC Championships.

Women’s Swimming
UMSL recorded one runner-up and four third place finishes as it competed in a triangular last weekend against No. 21 McKendree and Bellarmine. Freshman Franziska Hauptmann had the top finish, placing second in the 200 backstroke. UMSL returns to the pool Saturday at Saint Louis in its final tune-up before the GLVC Championships.
