The University of Missouri–St. Louis makes a significant impact on the St. Louis area. Stories about the university, its scholars and their expertise are often covered by local and national news media.

Media Coverage highlights some of the top coverage, but does not serve as a comprehensive listing. This post will be updated with new highlights throughout the month and beyond.

Kathleen Sullivan Brown, associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies, was quoted Sept. 27 in the KPLR (Channel 11) story “Push for testing students in kindergarten.”

Alan Byrd, dean of enrollment services, was quoted Sept. 18 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Enrollment dropping at community colleges in St. Louis region, nationally.”

Jerry Dunn, director of the Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis, was quoted Sept. 6 in the KMOV (Channel 4) story “’Strange form of love’ leads to parents killing children.” Jones was quoted Sept. 8 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU story “Experts field community questions on the Affordable Care Act.”

Julie Dunn-Morton, senior manuscript specialist in the St. Louis Mercantile Library, was quoted Sept. 28 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU story “Political collection at Mercantile Library ‘makes history real.’

Alumna Kim Folwarski, OD 2011, was featured Sept. 4 in the Eureka-Wildwood (Mo.) Patch article “New Wildwood vision specialists envision bright future.”

Jean-Germain Gros, associate professor of political science, was quoted Sept. 15 in the Global Post (Boston) article “Candidates vie to lead the rebuilding of Haiti.”

Alumna Christy Hayes, OD 2011, was featured Sept. 4 in the Eureka-Wildwood (Mo.) Patch article “New Wildwood vision specialists envision bright future.”

Terry Jones, professor of political science, was quoted in Sept. 5 in the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU story “Morning headlines: Wednesday, September 5, 2012.” Jones was quoted Sept. 24 in the NPR story “Todd Akin bets he still has a chance.” He was quoted Sept. 9 in the St. Louis Beacon article “St. Louis area clinics’ program called model for expanded Medicaid under ACA.” Jones was quoted Sept. 8 in the St. Louis Public Radio story “Experts field community questions on the Affordable Care Act.” He was mentioned Sept. 30 in the Los Angeles Times article “Stalwart Missouri conservatives stick with Todd Akin for Senate.”

Derrick Langeneckert, a student pursuing a master’s degree in biology, was featured Sept. 28 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Downtown St. Louis is getting a new craft brewery.”

Janet Lauritsen, professor of criminology and criminal justice, was quoted Sept. 19 in The New York Times article “Fewer children are found exposed to violent crime.”

Ed Lawrence, professor of finance, was quoted Nov. 16 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Four years after Lehman, financial system is stronger but still vulnerable.”

Kelsey Proud, multimedia specialist for St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU, was quoted Sept. 16 in the St. Louis Business Journal article “KWMU’s new facility gives it room to grow.”

Dave Robertson, Curators’ Teaching Professor of Political Science, was quoted Sept. 18 in the KMOX (1120 AM) story “Akin faces uphill battle in Senate race.” Robertson wrote the Sept. 20 St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Guest commentary: Paul Ryan’s budget plan could hurt many Missourians.” l He was quoted Sept. 26 in The Christian Science Monitor article “Todd Akin: Why some Republicans are now supporting him.” Robertson was quoted Sept. 30 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Candidates for Missouri’s attorney general see the race very differently.” l He was quoted Sept. 30 in the Los Angeles Times article “Stalwart Missouri conservatives stick with Todd Akin for Senate.”

Richard Rosenfeld, Curators’ Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, was quoted Sept. 3 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Scheduling changes help reduce crime, response times in St. Louis County.” Rosenfeld discussed police and crime in St. Louis on the Sept. 5 episode of “St. Louis on the Air,” a program on St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU.  He was quoted Sept. 27 in The St. Louis American article “Tracking guns used in local crimes.” Rosenfeld was quoted Sept. 21 in the St. Louis Beacon article “Police target violence by using data rather than instinct.”

Lana Stein, professor emeritus of political science, was quoted Sept. 2 in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article “Democrats gather in Charlotte hoping to build momentum.”

Ken Thomas, associate professor of political science, was quoted Sept. 2 in The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee article “We need unions – so why are they fading?” Thomas wrote the Sept. 10 Business Insider article “US has lower wages and higher unemployment than all of these developed countries.”  He was quoted Sept. 16 in the Scripps Treasure Coast (Fla.) Newspapers article “Will Treasure Coast company failures have chilling effect on future incentives?” Thomas wrote the Sept. 26 Business Insider article “Mitt Romney’s unintentionally hilarious tax return FAQ.”
