The grand opening of Anheuser-Busch Hall this summer will cap off more than $125 million in construction projects that are improving the student experience at the University of Missouri–St. Louis – much to the delight of community leaders in north St. Louis County.

During its annual leadership breakfast May 19, North County Incorporated presented UMSL with a Community Development Award recognizing the various projects UMSL has undertaken or coordinated over the past three years affecting the campus and nearby neighborhoods.

“We certainly appreciate the recognition for our efforts to better support student success and innovative research,” UMSL Chancellor Tom George said. “This really has been an unprecedented period of growth – with more construction underway than since the founding of the campus in the 1960s.

“First-rate facilities are important to our mission as a public research university and as an anchor institution in north St. Louis County,” George said. “We’re very cognizant that our activities should positively impact our neighbors, and this award affirms that UMSL is doing a pretty good job in that regard.”

In presenting the award, North County Inc. specifically mentioned UMSL’s new Recreation and Wellness Center, Science Learning Building, Patient Care Center and Anheuser-Busch Hall, which will serve as the new home for the College of Business Administration.

“We are also extremely proud of our role in the redevelopment of Natural Bridge Road from Hanley Road to Lucas and Hunt Road,” George said. “That project has great potential to create new economic opportunities and services in north St. Louis County.”

Using primarily federal funds, the Missouri Department of Transportation was project lead on the road redevelopment. UMSL, North County Inc. and the city of Normandy served as primary sponsors and coordinators.

North County Inc. is a regional development organization that acts as a catalyst to define and advocate economic and community development for north St. Louis County.
