Women’s Basketball
UMSL bounced back from a 68-58 loss at Illinois Springfield on Thursday to rally for a 69-64 win at McKendree on Sunday. The Tritons trailed by 14 at halftime against the Bearcats but shot 56 percent from the field in the second half and outscored McKendree 47-28. Senior Arielle Jackson scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, including 11 in the fourth quarter, while freshman Kiara Stewart recorded her first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. UMSL (8-7, 2-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) concludes its current four-game road swing with games at Truman State on Thursday and Quincy on Saturday.
Men’s Basketball
The Tritons scored a 76-71 win at Illinois Springfield last Thursday, becoming just the fourth team in program history to start the season 12-3. UMSL, playing its first true road game of the season, shot 49.1 percent and held a commanding 41-27 rebounding advantage. Senior Johnathan Matthews scored a game-high 17 points. The Tritons then lost 92-67 to McKendree on Sunday as the host Bearcats knocked down 14 3-pointers. Matthews and redshirt junior Jason Towery scored 10 points each. UMSL (12-4, 3-3 GLVC) wraps up its current four-game road trip with games at Truman State and Quincy on Thursday and Saturday.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
All of the Tritons’ competition was canceled over the weekend due to the winter storm. UMSL was scheduled to compete at Washington University in St. Louis on Friday night and to host Lindenwood-Belleville on Saturday. The Tritons return to the pool Friday and Saturday in a triangular hosted by McKendree with William Jewell also competing.
